Held Through Hardship — Original Mixed-Media Artwork | 48×60"

An artwork inspired by faith, remembrance, devotion, and the strength found in placing our trust in Allah through life's hardships.

At the heart of this piece is Ayat Al-Kursi — Surah Al-Baqarah 2:255, one of the most profound verses in the Qur’an, reflecting upon Allah’s absolute authority, infinite knowledge, and sustaining power over all creation.

The Arabic calligraphy forms a circular composition, bringing together intricate lettering in a continuous flow. Its arrangement represents the enduring nature of faith — a reminder that even through moments of uncertainty, hardship, and change, our connection with Allah remains at the centre of our lives.

The name of Allah rises above the composition, intentionally placed as the focal point. Its prominence reflects the central message of the piece: to remember the greatness of Allah, turn to Him in times of difficulty, and find comfort in His infinite power and wisdom.

The gold leaf catches the light throughout the artwork, symbolizing spiritual beauty and the radiance of faith, while the layered acrylic molding paste creates depth and movement across the canvas. Together, these elements bring dimension to the calligraphy, allowing the artwork to shift beautifully with the changing light.

I wanted this piece to feel powerful, grounding, and timeless — something that carries meaning beyond its physical form and becomes a quiet reminder within the home to return to faith, especially during life's most challenging moments.

A reminder to remain steadfast.
A reminder to seek His remembrance.
A reminder of the greatness of Allah. 🤍

The Meaning Behind the Painting

Held Through Hardship explores the relationship between faith, perseverance, and finding peace through the remembrance of Allah.

Inspired by Ayat Al-Kursi — Surah Al-Baqarah 2:255, this artwork reflects upon Allah’s supreme authority, infinite knowledge, and the sustaining power through which He maintains the heavens and the earth.

The circular arrangement of the calligraphy represents continuity, wholeness, and the enduring presence of faith. Its flowing composition reflects the many seasons of life — the moments of uncertainty, the challenges we face, and the strength we seek through turning back to Allah.

At the centre of the composition, the intricate Arabic calligraphy creates layers of visual meaning, while the prominent placement of Allah draws the eye upward, reinforcing the importance of keeping faith at the heart of our lives.

The warm neutral tones create a sense of peace and grounding, while the gold leaf introduces light and radiance into the composition. The raised texture, created with acrylic molding paste, adds another dimension to the work, allowing the surface to catch and reflect light throughout the day.

Rather than simply being a piece of calligraphy, I wanted this artwork to serve as a visual reminder of Allah’s greatness, the comfort of remembrance, and the strength that comes from placing our trust in Him through hardship.

Life does not always unfold as we expect. There are seasons that test our patience, moments that leave us searching for answers, and hardships that remind us how much we need our Creator. Through it all, faith invites us to remember the One whose knowledge encompasses all things and whose power sustains all creation.

May we find peace in His remembrance, strength in our faith, and comfort in turning to Allah through every season of life.
